Seattle Schools Approve Weapons Detectors At Two High Schools Amid Ongoing Safety Concerns🚨🏫

Seattle Public Schools has approved weapons detector pilot programs at Rainier Beach High School and Nathan Hale High School as the district looks for additional ways to improve student safety. The school board unanimously supported the measure on October 7, following requests from both schools to test the technology.

The pilot programs are expected to begin in the coming months, with Nathan Hale students proposing a December launch. Students and staff will help evaluate the system’s effectiveness, entry wait times and overall experience. The district has not yet announced the full cost or implementation details, and expansion to other schools is not automatic.
