Four medals on Day 1 in Tbilisi for the Road Scholar 2026 Veteran World Team, powered by roadscholar! 🇺🇸🤺

🥇 Heidi Runyan (Spartak), Vet-70 Women’s Saber — repeating as world champion. She’s the second American to win back-to-back Vet-70 women’s saber titles, after Ellen O’Leary in 2014 and 2015, and her win extends Team USA’s streak in the event to five straight years.

🥈 Sean Ameli (battle_born_fencing_club), Vet-60 Men’s Epee — his first Vet Worlds medal.

🥈 Yelena Kalkina (oregonfencingalliance), Vet-50 Women’s Saber — her first Vet Worlds medal. Kalkina won the 1997 NCAA women’s foil title for Ohio State with a 69-0 record, then returned to the sport in saber after a 22-year break.

🥉 Julie Seal (valkyriefencing), Vet-50 Women’s Saber — her seventh individual Vet Worlds medal and her fifth straight in this event, joining Jane Eyre and Liz Kocab as the only American women with streaks of five or more.

Kalkina reached the final by beating Seal in an all-American semifinal.

Congratulations to all four, and to every member of the Road Scholar 2026 Veteran World Team who competed today! #VetWorlds
