Feeling cute. May move across the room later.

One of Thomas Edison’s early inventions was a talking doll. Introduced in 1890, it used a miniature phonograph to speak. She just wants to be your friend ’til the end. Adorable!

Wait, whose end?

Not important.

The doll was on the market for about a month before being withdrawn. Apparently, the phonograph was too fragile for children. (Yes. That was the issue.) Edison eventually had the sound devices exorcised from the remaining dolls so they could still be sold.

The doll pictured here is part of the museum collection at thomasedisonnhp and certainly doesn’t wander the shelves at night looking for a new friend.

Ha! That would be weird, right? Right? It’s just a harmless historical artifact. Probably. Checking exhibit locks…

Disclaimer: We have no evidence it moves on its own, and the staff have been specifically instructed not to make eye contact. If you hear a tiny voice coming from the collection after closing, please do not respond.

Alright, folks! Have a good one!
