📍Philadelphia, PA
📅 2013
🏆 Dave Fine started Schmear It as a Philadelphia food truck in 2013, built around one idea: bagels with custom, made to order schmears. He built in a mission too. Spread Some Good put 5% of sales into local causes. The truck, Toasty, ran a rotation at Drexel, Penn, the Porch at 30th Street Station, LOVE Park, and City Hall. From the first day, the bagels came from Philly Bagels, one of Philadelphia’s original bagel bakeries. The concept proved out, and in November 2016 the first shop opened at 3601 Market Street with Brett Weinheimer, a family friend who brought the space. A second followed at 12th and Ludlow in East Market. In 2023 that decade long relationship became something bigger. Philly Bagels approached Dave and Ceci McCormick, who joined in 2018 as a Drexel freshman and now runs marketing, about acquiring the business. They toured all five locations. Brett came on as Chief Dough Officer. The deal closed that September, and with it came the recipes, the ovens, and the bakers. Ten years in, the brand got the refresh it had earned. Schmear It became Schmear Bagel Parlor, now rolled out across every location. Today the team bakes its own bagels and continues to develop its craft based on the rich history of Philadelphia while expanding into new neighborhoods.

The New York BagelFest presented by kingarthurbaking returns to citifield on Sunday, November 15th. Tickets are now on sale at bagelfest.com 🎟
