You’re never too young to start breaking records. This dreamlike painting recently set a new auction record for emerging artist Li Hei Di at #SothebysHongKong. It achieved HK$1.7 million in The Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction, presented in partnership with @celine.

Created in 2023, ‘The Heaviest of Burdens Crushes Us, We Sink Beneath It, It Pins Us to the Ground’ shows Li’s ability to translate deeply personal experiences into visual form. The painting, with its translucent layers and biomorphic forms, situates itself within Li’s ongoing inquiry of fluidity, while resisting rigid binaries of gender and sexuality.

Born in 1997, Li has quickly emerged as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary art, their practice marked by fearless exploration of identity, desire, and transformation.
