Yesterday I had a thing. Today I am recovering 🤍

Right before the pandemic hit full force in the US, I went on a bike ride, and I was exhausted, and my heart was pounding. I felt like I was climbing a steep hill full gas, but I was on a flat road soft pedaling. This was unusual. Even though I had episodes before, this time felt different. I could barely make it home. My first thought was heart attack. It happened a few more times the next few days while I was at home, doing nothing and even waking me from a deep sleep. My heart rate would hit 200+ for no reason, sometimes for long periods. I told Laura if it happened again, I needed to go to the ER. Off to the ER a few days later. They recommend I see my doctor in the coming weeks. 

The pandemic made it nearly impossible to see my doctor quickly. Three months later, I finally got to see him, only for him to recommend that I see a cardiologist. Another three months, I finally got an appointment with the cardiologist. The pandemic slowed this whole thing down. Doing a lot of heart tests, I was diagnosed with Atrial fibrillation (Afib). Afib is a problem with your heart’s rhythm, basically an electrical problem. I was given medication to help keep Afib away. Unfortunately, we had to up the dosage every couple of months as I got breakthrough attacks. Not nearly as bad, but enough to make me pause. However, the medication made me feel tired all the time, and it felt like I carried an anchor around. 

I was told about a Catheter Ablation procedure that could help control the Afib. They go into your heart and ablate the inner heart wall to help the electrical system get back to normal. Crazy! It’s not 100% but worth trying and may allow me to stop taking the medications altogether. So here I am. They will go into my heart and do what they do. 

I should be back to normal in a few weeks if all goes well.
