In an excerpt from his upcoming memoir, ‘I Only Shout So You Can Hear Me,’ obtained by People, the rapper reflects on his son’s emotional struggles and the conversations they shared before his passing.

Lil Jon recalled encouraging Nathan, who also went by #DJYoungSlade, to seek help and take care of himself. Nathan later sent his father a heartfelt text, expressing his love and explaining that he was working through his struggles.

After speaking with his therapist, Lil Jon realized his son wanted his efforts to be acknowledged. He reached out to apologize, telling Nathan, “I see that you’re trying, and I want you to know that you are seen. All the effort you’ve been putting in — I see it. And I see you.”

Sadly, that would be their final conversation. Nathan was reported missing on February 3 and found in a Georgia pond three days later. His passing was ruled an accidental drowning involving psilocybin use.
