The 2019 to 2022 Kia Niro EV EX represents the first generation of Kia's compact electric crossover, powered by a 64 kWh battery pack and a single-motor front-wheel-drive setup producing 201 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque. It delivers a 0 to 60 mph time of around 7 seconds, an EPA-estimated range of 239 miles, and supports up to 85 kW DC fast charging that replenishes the battery from 10 to 80% in 45 minutes.

As the core base trim, the EX comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, combination cloth and synthetic leather seating, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver's seat with power lumbar support, automatic climate control, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Software is centered around a touchscreen display (7-inch for 2019, 8-inch for 2020–2021, and upgraded to 10.25-inch with navigation for 2022) featuring wired Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto.

Safety amenities include a blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning.
