From Pittsburgh to Puerto Rico, building stronger futures for our trans communities. 💜🇵🇷

Today, Sisters PGH Founder and Executive Director Ciora Thomas presented at the National Trans Visibility March’s Policy and Safety Summit in San Juan, Puerto Rico, sharing lessons from years of building and sustaining Black trans-led housing and community services. ntvmarch

The conversation explored how to start and sustain trans housing programs, find funding, navigate housing barriers, and develop practical policies that protect residents’ safety and dignity. Ciora also discussed ethical nonprofit leadership, meaningful partnerships, and the responsibility to listen, accept accountability, and continue learning.

Drawing from Sisters PGH’s work through Stonewall Inn Pittsburgh, Project T, and Monica Roberts Place, Ciora shared both the possibilities and the difficult decisions that come with this work. We also discussed ways to support trans Puerto Ricans on the island through efforts guided by local leadership.

Thank you to everyone who attended, asked thoughtful questions, shared experiences, and signed up to continue the conversation. Hearing that you left with new knowledge and tools means so much to us.
