## Caption

Ahead of the kickoff of the college basketball season, Sports Illustrated visited Notre Dame to spend a day with women's basketball star Hannah Hidalgo, capturing an inside look at her preparation for the upcoming season and her everyday life on campus in South Bend, Indiana. From the practice court to a rainy golf cart ride across campus on her way to class, Hidalgo opens up about her national championship aspirations, embracing a leadership role on a young Notre Dame team and why anything short of a national title would fall short of her ultimate goal.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year also reflects on her record-breaking 16-steal performance, explains how growing up undersized fueled her relentless defensive mentality and discusses wanting to expand her shooting range like Caitlin Clark. She also reacts to Notre Dame football star Jeremiah Love's comments about her having more aura on campus and shares how Allen Iverson helped influence her game.

Away from the court, Hidalgo takes us inside her world as a student-athlete, discussing her favorite spots on campus, her signature hairstyle, her passion for film and broadcasting, and her aspirations to one day become a coach. Plus, she reflects on meeting Teresa Weatherspoon and reveals the outgoing, fun-loving personality behind her fierce competitive spirit.
