Sean Armand’s journey to get D1 and Pro is WILD!

He was 5′5′′ going into his freshman year at Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School in Manhattan, which is PSAL B Division.

Despite being 5’5”, Sean tries out for the varsity team and because he could shoot the ball — he made the team! He didn’t get much playing time though.

The following year, he came back standing 6’0.” Things looked like they were finally going in the right direction.

Adversity would hit this season.

Sean and his mom had an agreement, if he maintained an an 80 average, he’d be able to play on the team. Grades came in and he gets a 78 — Sean’s mom doesn’t allow him to play that year.

That next year, Sean comes back to school standing 6′4.” His height had finally caught up to his confidence, and he’s playing some of the best basketball of his career to that point. He even had a 4-game stretch where he scored 40 points consecutively!

Even with great stats, because he went to a smaller high school, he was only able to earn one Division I offer out of high school — St. Francis Brooklyn.

He decides to go to prep school in New Jersey, and eventually commits to Fordham University. After de-committing due to a coaching change, he starts to hear from high major schools such as Memphis and Houston, but eventually landed on Iona College.

As a senior at Iona, the Brooklyn native averaged 17.5 points per game and led Iona to two NCAA Tournament appearances throughout his career.

The 6-foot-4 guard has also racked up numerous awards throughout his college playing career:

🔺 NABC All-District (1) First Team
🔺 All-MAAC First Team - 2014
🔺 All-MAAC Second Team - 2013
🔺 MAAC All-Tournament Team - 2014

After college, Armand went pro — playing in various countries throughout the world. This past season, he played in Spain, Turkey and Lebanon. He even had a game in Turkey where he dropped 40 points!

Sean credits John Rafaniello, his HS coach, and Josh Hoffman, his AAU coach, as the two who believed in him before he even really believed in himself.

This summer, he’ll be suiting up with Friday Beers for TBT 2022!
