Johnathan Loyd lived every dual athlete’s dream at Oregon from 2010-2014 🦆

A star high school basketball & football player in Las Vegas, Loyd decided to pursue hoops in college. He was Dana Altman’s very first recruit at Oregon, ultimately signing with the Ducks in May 2010.

Loyd had a storybook career over four seasons. His 97 career wins is the most in Oregon history. He ranks fifth all-time in career assists (468) and fourth in career steals (152). Most importantly, Loyd helped the Ducks reach the 2013 Sweet 16, their best NCAA Tourney run at the time since 2007.

With several pro offers on the table, Loyd could have easily graduated an Oregon legend and began earning a paycheck overseas. But with a year of non-basketball eligibility still on the table, he figured why not put the pads & helmet back on for the first time since high school?

It ended up working out perfectly for Loyd. In his lone season on the gridiron, he carved out a role returning punts and as an occasional wide receiver/cornerback for the Ducks. He even caught a touchdown from NFL QB Marcus Mariota in a 48-14 win over Wyoming. Oregon ended the season 13-2 and won the Rose Bowl in dominant fashion over Florida State. In the process, Loyd became the only player ever to win a Pac-12 basketball and football championship.

He’s since continued his basketball career, playing professionally in Germany & Canada. Loyd also suited up for Oregon alumni Always Us in TBT 2021, averaging 10.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. He’ll be back this summer for TBT 2022! 🤝
