Our Fall lecture series begins next month, October 3rd, at Rosecliff. This event is FREE to the public. Registration required.

The Preservation Society of Newport County holds the largest collection of works by furniture maker and interior designer Jules Allard, whose businesses in Paris and New York catered to a clientele of wealthy, socially ambitious Americans during the Gilded Age.

In 2022, the curatorial and conservation teams in Newport embarked on a long-term study of the furniture and interiors attributed to Allard in its collections.

To compliment this study, 2023 French Heritage Society Intern, Théo Lourenço, will present findings from his comprehensive survey of primary and secondary sources related to Allard. These discoveries came from libraries, archives, and other public and private collections in France.

Théo will explore his research objectives, methodology, and reveal his most exciting findings which have enriched the Preservation Society's scholarship of one of the most influential designers of the Gilded Age.
