This cozy scene comes from our collection at Kingscote. Painted in 1878 by David Maitland Armstrong, "The Chimney Corner" depicts a young Edward Maitland Armstrong seated in front of the tiled fireplace of the family’s home outside of Newburgh, N.Y., along the Hudson River. Edward Maitland Armstrong later married Maud Gwendolen King of Kingscote. (Bequest of Mrs. Gwendolen Armstrong Rives, 1972)
