It may be difficult to imagine now, but by 1850, George Washington's Mount Vernon — was in such disrepair that its survival was very much in doubt. How it was rescued by the Mount Vernon Ladies‘ Association, a group of women from across the nation who rallied to support a cause, is just part of a remarkable story.

Join us by Zoom conference call July 9, at 5:30 p.m. for our Pamela and David B. Ford Lecture, "The Women Who Saved Mount Vernon," with Dr. Susan P. Schoelwer, the Executive Director of Historic Preservation and Collections at George Washington’s famous home. To register, email your full name and the subject line “Mount Vernon lecture,” to ProgramRSVP@newportmansions.org and you will receive information on how to connect.

And a reminder that The Preservation Society is collaborating with Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Washington, D.C., to share livestream lectures. Hillwood is the former home of Marjorie Merriweather Post – heiress, business executive, suffragist, humanitarian and philanthropist.

This Wednesday, July 8 at 6:30 p.m., Hillwood will host the virtual lecture "Day in Paris with Marjorie Post," presented by Wilfried Zeisler and Megan Martinelli via Zoom. To register, go to www.hillwoodmuseum.org/explore-hillwood-home. Once you register, you will be emailed a link to join the presentation.
