The Wetmore family of Chateau-sur-Mer was said to entertain with a "stately elegance." One of their most notable parties was held in May of 1885 when Governor George Peabody Wetmore and his wife hosted a party open to all Rhode Islanders to celebrate his inauguration. Some 3,000 people attended!
