## Caption

As winter sets in, who couldn’t do with a spot of tea? You can find this ornate teapot by the English manufacturer Royal Worcester Porcelain Company, 1880, at Kingscote, which opens May 16. It is nestled among many fine examples of art pottery in the North Library.

The spout and handle are gilded and ribbed to resemble bamboo stalks, reflecting the Japanese-inspired designs for which Royal Worcester gained widespread recognition. The body and lid of the teapot are double-walled, with the outer layer done in a pierced latticework pattern decorated in lively colors of blue, pink, red and gold, with raised enamel dots and shield shapes at intervals. This is a gift of the Estate of Mrs. Gwendolen E. Rives.
