“My Life” by Billy Joel is a sharp, confident anthem of independence and self-definition. Driven by a bright piano riff and steady rock rhythm, the song captures the frustration of unsolicited advice and societal expectations.

Joel’s lyrics are direct yet relatable, expressing a universal desire to live life on one’s own terms without apology.

The upbeat melody contrasts cleverly with the defiant message, making it both introspective and radio-friendly.

Decades on, “My Life” remains relevant, resonating with anyone who has ever chosen personal freedom over pleasing others.
