Saturn’s sidekicks 🦸⁣
⁣
NASASolarSystem’s Cassini spacecraft looks across Saturn’s unlit ringplane as its moons appear side by side in this image captured in visible light on July 3, 2006.⁣
⁣
While these two moons look like two peas in a pod, they are some of many. Saturn has 146 moons in orbit, which can range in size from larger than the planet Mercury – the giant moon Titan – to as small as a sports arena. The moons shape, contribute to and also collect material from Saturn’s rings and magnetosphere.⁣
 ⁣
Image description: Two moons are side by side above Saturn’s rings in a black-and-white image. Mimas appears smaller and darker with a slim crescent of light reflected from the Sun. Dione appears much larger, also with a slim crescent; it appears dimly lit by reflected light from Saturn. Saturn’s shadow stretches across the rings at the bottom of the image.⁣
