Susan was inspired to help other new mothers, after her and her husband, Lucas, experienced the devastating loss of their daughter, a tragedy that changed their lives forever. Determined no mother in her community would endure the same heartbreak, Susan began supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth, and early motherhood. Her compassion and lived experience allow her to offer not just care, but deep understanding and hope. The Lwala Community Alliance equips community health workers like Susan to be trusted medical advisors in local villages and homes. Through immunisations, newborn care, and at home visits they reduce the number of lives lost to the most common causes of death in pregnant women and newborns.
