In 2022, Brian Brobbey was approached at a music festival. A drug dealer told him that Moroccan criminals in Utrecht were looking for him, but he’d solved the problem. The dealer thought it’d be reasonable if the player compensated him for sorting the problem. Brobbey said he had no connection to Utrecht and refused to pay. A few months later, fireworks were dropped through Brobbey’s mother-in-law’s letterbox. Two months after that, an explosive was thrown at a car belonging to Brobbey parked in Zuidoost. A month later, his sister’s car was set alight. After Brobbey’s friend agreed to meet the initial drug dealer, he was shot. His life saved by emergency services. A week later, Brobbey was told to pay €150,000 by the end of the month – otherwise, the message read, “we’re going to do it differently”. The dealer was eventually arrested on unrelated charges of directing drug dealers, and sentenced to nine years in prison in September 2024. Brobbey never raised the issue to police or Ajax. He was always worried things could get worse if he spoke to authorities. Brobbey left the Netherlands for England two months after the case was revealed publicly. #brobbey #brianbrobbey #footballtiktok
