We’ve recently become aware of an article written by paulaschoice titled “Why Witch Hazel is a Problem for Skin”, and we can’t help but notice how it’s fired up the online discussion, debates (comment sections have been lit) and controversial opinions behind witch hazel. Today we’re telling our side of the story, starting off with: she makes some accurate points! Let’s talk witch hazel, why not all witch hazel is created equal, and why you can trust the formula under our red cap.

Witch hazel extract has been a legacy ingredient of Thayers for over 150 years. Just like any other ingredient, the way it’s extracted and used makes all the difference. In perfecting the formula, we’ve worked with our formulators and dermatologists to create and test a formula we’re proud of. In our latest blog post we discuss some of the claims made about witch hazel in Paula’s article, and break down what makes our formula unique compared to other brands. We talk specifics about tannins, alcohol, and eugenol, and the misconceptions surrounding each of these elements. We appreciate the light Paula’s article has shed on witch hazel, as it allows us to tell the unique story surrounding our formula, and that we can confidently say there’s a reason Thayers has been around since 1847.
