Hurricane Melissa, after striking Jamaica as a catastrophic Category 5 storm, is now back over open water off the east coast of Cuba and heading toward the central Bahamas. Expect heavy rainfall -- up to 20 inches in eastern Cuba, and another 10+ inches as it moves into the Bahamas. Flooding remains a serious threat.
Melissa has already carved a trail of destruction from Haiti and Jamaica to Cuba. The storm’s next target: The Bahamas, where conditions will worsen before the system weakens.
