When I had three kids under 3 years old, life felt a little crazy.

I remember my husband coming home from work and I would be so upset about a really hard day we’d had. But when I started to tell him about it, I would always realize that actually, the day was pretty good we just had one really rough situation that maybe lasted 15-30min.

But I kept inadvertently letting that one incident define my day.

When I started to realize this pattern, I shifted my perspective. I began recognizing and holding onto the good days, and I was more proactive about letting go of the bad moments.

It sounds so simple, but it took a lot of work to constantly recognize and shift my mindset around these things. Once I got used to making this mental change, it became more natural.

Today reminded me of those days with little ones at home.

My practice started out really well, then one really tough moment started to define my workout.

But as I continued on, I recognized that that tough moment actually helped me make a really important change.

I may have a few lasting marks on my back from that tough moment, but I’m leaving it at the pool and taking the positive changes I made home with me.
