This past weekend was supposed to determine whether or not we were heading to the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer.

So here’s a little look back at my last Olympic Trials in 2008. And I’ll give you a little insight on why I love to look back at this particular dive... because it’s not about the 10’s.

I blew my second of five dives, like flat on my back. I was embarrassed, angry and doubt poured over me like a tidal wave.

This video is of the very next dive. I had a choice to make- give up or fight for my life.

I used to thank God when tough moments like this were OVER. I was grateful to get through them and have grown because of them, but I HATED walking through them. It was terrifying, stressful and exhausting.

Then at some point after going through so many, I realized how dependent I became on God to get through these difficult moments and even seasons of life. They were tough, sure, but the closeness I felt to God in the middle of the storm was absolutely precious to me.

I began to LONG for difficult times so that I could lean fully on Him again. Because when I’m leaning fully on Him, it’s not about the outcome. It’s about fully surrendering to His will and trusting that He’s going to walk with me and give me the strength to face whatever comes.

I am weak on my own, but His grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest upon me (2 Cor. 12:9-10).
.
And I especially love reliving this moment through this fan’s perspective and excitement. It reminds me how I feel when I fully trust God in the middle of the hard.
