18 years ago today, I shattered my foot just 3 months before the 2000 Olympic Trials. Broken in 3 places and with a chunk of bone calcifying underneath the ball my foot, we made the decision to forgo surgery and cast it the way it was, hoping that it would heal well enough to walk on… maybe jump off of.

It was the darkness that precedes the dawn. It was the storm before the rainbow. It was the reason I went on to stand atop the podium at the Olympic Games just six months later.

Obstacles, challenges, difficult seasons… these are the things which prepare us for the beauty, the triumph and the victory to come. .
I’m walking through the darkness yet again, but I know the light is coming.
