In this review, we break down the Dakine Hot Laps 5L — the biggest bag in the Hot Laps line and the one that can genuinely replace your trail backpack. Five liters of storage plus an included 2L / 70 oz Hydrapak® 3D lumbar reservoir means you're carrying real gear and real water without a single strap across your shoulders or a sweat-soaked back. The reservoir sits low and squat against your lumbar so the weight stays centered and low, and a magnetic hose clip auto-locates the hydration hose right to your waist buckle — a small detail you'll appreciate every time you take a drink mid-descent. The main compartment organizes tools, a tube, snacks, and a packable shell, while a fleece-lined pocket on the padded hip belt keeps your phone or sunglasses scratch-free and instantly reachable. Lower straps deploy to carry knee pads, side compression straps cinch the load tight as the reservoir empties so nothing sloshes or sways, and a breathable AirFlow back panel keeps hotspots and sweat under control. Built from 450D ripstop recycled polyester (rPET) and priced well below most hydration hip packs.
