In this review, we break down the brand-new Arc'teryx Kopec 2 Mid GTX — the second generation of Arc'teryx's do-everything hiking boot, and a rare case of a gram-obsessed brand deliberately adding weight. The original Kopec Mid was beloved but narrow, with plenty of hikers sizing up to get enough room. Arc'teryx listened: the Kopec 2 gets a wider, more forgiving last that allows real toe splay on long days, plus a more responsive midsole foam for better energy return and underfoot protection. That costs about 49 grams per boot — and it's worth it. The rest is pure Arc'teryx: a GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane that keeps water out while staying breathable, a durable recycled CORDURA® upper with TPU overlays and a molded rubber toe cap, a compression-molded EVA midsole with an integrated TPU shank for torsional stability, and a Vibram® Megagrip outsole with LITEBASE technology running aggressive 5mm lugs for traction on rock, mud, and slick ground. At 399g per boot with an 8mm drop, it's still remarkably light for a waterproof mid — just not at the expense of comfort anymore.
