Inside the Red Cross Blood Donation Center in Kennewick, Washington, Diana is more than a phlebotomist. She’s a bridge between donors and the lives they help save.

For more than a decade, Diana has been guiding donors through the blood donation process with care and compassion. Being Spanish bilingual allows her to connect with Spanish-speaking donors and create a space where they feel seen, heard and supported.

The impact of her presence is seen every day. “Diana helps us create an inclusive environment for all who come to our Red Cross blood drives,” said her colleague, Sarah. “Her friendly demeanor and ability to speak both Spanish and English ensures Spanish-speaking donors feel comfortable and understood.”

That comfort matters. Diana’s ability to connect with donors through language and empathy strengthens the entire team’s ability to serve the community.

“Her willingness to assist with translation not only enhances the donor experience but also strengthens our team's ability to serve the diverse community we support,” Sarah said.

Diana brings more than language skills to her role. She notes flexibility, confidence and patience as essential qualities for any phlebotomist. Her goal is simple: make every donor feel respected and proud of the lifesaving gift they’re giving.

“Phlebotomists work hard to help people donate blood and to save other people’s lives,” Diana said. “I really enjoy my job because I get to help my community."
