Dr. Marcus Allen has been using his compassionate energy as a pastor and educator to help people after disasters for nearly 20 years.

“I love serving people,” Marcus said. “I have a passion for helping."

Marcus became a volunteer in 2007, moved by the work of the Red Cross after Hurricane Katrina. Since then, he has been providing critical support in our shelters for people affected by hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and wildfires.

"You’re a counselor, a tech, a life coach, a problem solver," Marcus said. "It’s hard work, but it’s holy work.”

Marcus' work includes building and training volunteer teams, managing shelters, and even holding space for healing as a spiritual care volunteer. He feels this is the work he was meant to do.

“I just love people," Marcus said. "I believe they deserve someone who shows up for them.”

You can make a difference like Marcus for people experiencing their darkest days. We need shelter volunteers to support roles across health and mental health services. Learn more and explore the needs in your community through the link in our bio.
