4-year-old Cora and her family’s lives were turned upside down in 2020 when she was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, an aggressive form of blood cancer.

In her first week of treatment, Cora received a blood transfusion. Her mother recalled how mind-blowing it was to watch the blood take effect.

“After she got it, you could just see the difference,” Greta said. “Not only in the color of her skin, but also how it made her feel better. You could tell she got what she needed to feel back to normal — as normal as she could feel while being sick.”

Cora spent more than two years undergoing chemotherapy treatments, and four blood transfusions helped her continue to fight against the cancer. In October 2022, she celebrated her completion of chemotherapy!

About two-thirds of all children diagnosed with cancer will need a blood transfusion at some point during treatment. The impact blood donors have on patients like Cora is profound, and because of them, she gets to do the things she loves — being a big sister to her two siblings, playing outside, making arts and crafts, and reading before bed. ❤️
