Charles Webb, his wife, and his dog Malachi were all sheltering in their bathroom when Hurricane Helene swept through Steinhatchee, Florida, causing a giant tree to crash into their home.

Our disaster teams were in Charles’ community handing out food and water when they connected with him and heard his heartbreaking story. Charles shared how grateful he was to be alive and for the support he and his family have received from the Red Cross and other community groups.

Helene devastated communities across the Southeast, all of them facing different struggles. Now, many of them must prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall as a dangerous Category 3 storm on Wednesday.

We’re working as quickly as possible to get people the help they need, such as food, water, emotional support and more. Just like with Helene, we will be there for residents impacted by Milton. ❤️
