Who's afraid of little old Clara Barton? You should be — she founded the American Red Cross. 💪🏼

Clara fought for equal pay, taught herself how to be a nurse, and cared for soldiers during the Civil War. Her humanitarian spirit was further inspired by the Red Cross movement in Europe, which provided neutral aid to those injured in combat.

After volunteering with the ICRC to provide relief during the Franco-Prussian War, she brought their lifesaving mission to the United States.

On May 21, 1881, Clara founded the American Red Cross and remained president of the organization until she retired 23 years later. Today, her legacy lives on through every Red Cross volunteer and employee who brings help and hope across the nation and around the world. ❤️
