This baby boy is alive today, thanks to the bravery of a SierraLeoneRedCrossSociety volunteer.

Baindu Momoh knew something was wrong when her son, Senesie, had a fever and puffy face and eyes. She took him to her local Red Cross volunteer, Joseph, for help.

Since Joseph is trained on how to detect, report, and respond to disease threats, he knew he needed to act fast. He rushed Baindu and her baby on his motorbike to the nearest health post where Senesie was diagnosed with severe malaria and anemia. 

Senesie's life depended on an emergency blood transfusion. Although the nearest hospital was 30 miles away, Joseph didn't hesitate to bring them there, even with the rough terrain.

He transported them to the hospital safely, and Senesie made a full recovery. 

“Joseph risked his life to save my son’s," Baindu said. "To me, he is a true lifesaver who helped us in our time of need." ❤️
