"I have loved this woman for 45 years, and I wanted to spend what time I have left showing her how much I love her.”

Army veterans Sharon and Mark Taylor have known each other for decades and were looking forward to celebrating their time as husband and wife after their nuptials.

The day after they got married, a tornado struck their home in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Sharon was taking a nap in the room when tornado sirens went off. All she remembers was her pitbull Butch jumping on top of her as the roof caved in. Mark couldn’t believe it.

"The roof had collapsed on top of Sharon, but Butch saved her life. Butch had covered Sharon with his body, and he was standing over her holding the weight of our entire roof on his back.”

The Taylors spent that night in the emergency room, while Sharon was treated for injuries she sustained from the debris. After being discharged and spending a night in their damaged home, not knowing where they could go with Butch, a couple helped them get to a Red Cross shelter that welcomed pets.

Sharon and Mark could finally take a deep breath, knowing their family was safe and would be cared for by Red Cross volunteers. ❤️

We help thousands of people like the Taylors affected by devastating disasters every day. And, today, on Red Cross Giving Day, you can DOUBLE your impact to help even more families. Thanks to our friends at the Malott Family Foundation, every dollar you donate today (March 27) will be matched up to $200K until midnight. ➡️ Donate through the link in bio!
