Today marks six months since lives were forever changed by the devastating wildfires on Maui. People tragically lost not only their homes and loved ones, but also their livelihoods and sense of community. While we know the road to recovery is far from over and continuously evolving, this is a glimpse at how we’re helping guide a path forward for many:

❤️ Stephany Sepulveda and her husband Fernando moved to Maui five years ago following their retirement. Stephany’s extended family has deep roots in Lahaina, tracing back to more than 100 years. She and her husband received Bridge Assistance, which helped them purchase food and replace essential items they lost in the fire.

❤️ Keiko Kaska lost her home and everything thing she owned and was grateful she made it out safely. She and her 16-year-old son are utilizing the financial assistance they received to move into a rental unit.

❤️ Linda Santella and her husband Celestino are still residing in a Red Cross non-congregate shelter, waiting for the day they can return home and begin rebuilding their lives. They received financial assistance to help get back on their feet and buy necessities like gas and replace medications and a walker that were lost in the fire.

Others have shared they used recovery assistance toward car repairs for traveling to work, to place a deposit for a home, and to buy new clothes and personal items to regain a sense of normalcy.

We’re grateful for the generosity of donors who have enabled us to provide recovery assistance, our volunteers who have given their time and talent to serve people in need, and our partners who have provided essential resources throughout this response to ensure people are supported and don’t face this crisis alone.

It takes a village to overcome a tragedy like this, and our role remains focused on delivering compassionate and equitable care when people need it most.
