“I’m very passionate about everything that I do, and I believe in doing things from my heart.

For me, coordinating the 5-Point Plan Project, which is helping provide routine immunizations to children, is something that I thank God for because it’s something I’ve always dreamed of. I love working in the communities. I’m a people person and I want to make people happy and make a difference in their lives. The 5-Point Plan is something that will improve the health status of the children.

I joined the Zambia Red Cross in November 2020, and unfortunately, I was hit by COVID in February 2021. You can imagine the stress that came with me being ill. And, I lost my dad during the time I was in isolation, which was for a whole month.

I was not able to talk. I was not able to do anything. I looked at the situation that I found myself in and I realized the help that we give to people is more than what the eye can see. I noticed that I had a deep wound in me that the doctors and the nurses who were tending to me could not see.

Because I have a background in mental health, I was able to realize, ‘Oh, I’m a humanitarian worker. I shouldn’t just deal with the physical scars, but the emotional scars as well.’

Working on the 5-Point Plan, we are engaging with local communities. We are actually on the ground and part of solving this problem. The plan will help everyone realize the importance of vaccines. Not only will the community and mothers and caregivers get to realize the importance, but the health providers as well.

We are humanitarians. We have a lot to do in the world. Disasters and crisis events happen every day, and we need more people to come on board to help prevent and alleviate the suffering of people. I’m encouraging everyone to join their local Red Cross. Being a volunteer, it should come from your heart.”

Serah is dedicated to helping people. ❤️ She leads a program called the 5-Point-Plan in Zambia, which works to find pockets of children missing routine immunizations, such as the measles vaccine. We’re proud to share her #StoriesThatInspire.
