"I found out that my wife, Madi, was admitted to the hospital on April 5 while I was stationed in South Korea. That night, I texted my supervisor and asked him what my options were, because they said they were going to induce her in 24 hours. He said, 'Don't worry about it right now, just pack up what you can and come to work tomorrow. We'll get it all straightened out in the morning.'

Honestly, my hopes for it weren't too high. I was expecting I would have to pay my way over to see my daughter's birth. I was hoping I was going to be able to see the birth, but I wasn't the most optimistic about it because of how last minute it was.

But, that whole day was spent talking with the first sergeant, talking with my supervisor, talking with the TMO office here, which is basically the people that organize flights, just talking with all of them trying to get me out of here as quickly as possible.

My first sergeant worked with them, and once the Red Cross was able to confirm Madi's status with preeclampsia, they booked a flight and got me to the airport. I arrived a few hours before my daughter was born, who we named Harriet.

I was in awe. I was so thankful. I thanked God for it every day for the next couple of weeks because I was just so amazed at being able to be there. And I was so in love with Harriet. I was just so in love with Madi. And I couldn't have been happier in that moment.

The plane rides and all the travel, that was stressful. And I'm not going to lie, the hours following the birth are a little bit fuzzy for me because I was just so exhausted, and I was so stressed out that my body was finally coming off that adrenaline rush. But it meant the world to be there. I was so incredibly thankful to the Red Cross, to my leadership and to my family that put it all together."

When Jonathan was stationed in South Korea with the Air Force, he learned his wife was going to give birth sooner than expected. With help from his family and military leadership, we got him home to see the birth. Today, Harriet is thriving and loves her mother and father to pieces. ❤️ Read our comments to see what this #StoriesThatInspire looked like from Madi's perspective!
