"It was July 7, 2020. It was a nice day, so I decided to go for a ride. My wife was resting and my son was at his grandparent's house. While I was out I decided to stop at a local Harley dealer. I liked looking at equipment I didn't need and bikes I couldn't afford. I left the Harley dealership and headed home when the unthinkable happened.

I was traveling on Route 20, near home when the driver of an SUV pulled out of a side street, in front of me to make a left-hand turn, they weren't clear to go. They stopped and blocked my lane. I ended up dumping my motorcycle and colliding with the SUV. I broke 23 bones, both of my lungs collapsed and I went into cardiac arrest.

Three amazing people rushed by my side, assessed me, and began CPR. They performed hands-only CPR on me until the paramedics arrived. After the paramedics took over, they were able to get my heart going again after a few minutes. I was dead the entire time. If it weren't for the people who gave me CPR, the paramedics would've never had a chance. I shouldn't be alive.

I had a traumatic brain injury. When I woke up from my medically induced coma I had to relearn how to walk, how to think and how to feed myself. The things people take for granted, I had to relearn.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about those people who stopped and gave me CPR. After a few months of going through this, I decided that the only way that I can thank these people is to become a Red Cross training instructor and teach people, and maybe share my story and inspire others.

I taught one hands-only CPR class on the one-year anniversary of my accident. Hopefully, my story will inspire somebody else to become an instructor."

After Chris's accident, he decided to give back by teaching others how to save lives. We hope his #StoriesThatInspire piece motivates you to take a class, too. Tap the link in our bio to sign up.
