27+ hiking miles over 3 days for us, Carson tagged out on his elk hunt last week!

I’ve been there for bits of pieces during hunting season over the past 10 years or so with Carson, but I always like to send him with his friends or family before I agree to go 😅 Well, between needing to leave his hunt for his sister’s wedding, packing up horses and driving 7+ hours one way, this hunt wasn’t lining up with just anyone’s schedules, but mine!! I’d cleared my entire October for hunting season, so with my open calendar, I packed for 7 days and after one long Monday, we set out!! 

For some reason this hunting seasons feels a little more special, in the sense that I am more understanding of just how lucky we are to do this, and just how much work it is to hunt and pack out a large animal. 

After miles of hiking every morning and every evening, we luckily tagged out on the third morning!! From sun up to sun down, it took all day to get his elk packed back to our camp. Thank goodness we had our old BUT MIGHTY horse Shooter, he really helped pack things out! It’s humbling to say the least! I’m finding myself feeling really grateful Carson even has these skills and resources to know how to hunt/ grateful our work schedules allow us this time off! We covered some BEAUTIFUL landscapes, had stunning sunrises and sunsets. This area we were in was incredible! 🤩

It was a special hunt and a well earned Elk. I’m really grateful I got to experience it with him. Very grateful for a full freezer and new memories! I’m also extra grateful for the life of this elk and the food it provides our family. ❤️ I also can’t take for granted the bonding time spent together, I know we wont always have this time of just us!
