It's been 1 Week and 2 Days since I moved my first child to college. We miss him so much! Here’s 10 tips for parents doing that now...

1. Prepare yourself for a week or more of basically not being able to function properly. It's harder than you think! I thought I had myself together. I thought I was ready. Boy was I fooling myself!!
👉 Cancel anything important, get some rest, do no-brain activities.

2. Take it day by day. - Something stressful might happen with them the first day, then the next day something good.

3. Give them space - My son seemed fine after I left. (At least that's the vibe I'm getting.😜)

4. If they don't call or text you - Set up a day of the week that is call mom/dad time.

5. If you don't get a 1st day of school photo. That's okay, you aren't the only one! They are over it. 😜

6. Be prepared to move mountains when they do call and need something. My husband and I dropped our work and ran around the house looking for our son’s calculator the second he texted us asking to send it. 😆 ha! Then instead of just sending the calculator I sent a box of goodies. (Can we say going overboard??? ha!)

7. For those with kids who don't keep in touch, here's a funny idea to get them to contact you... My friend told me she would send care packages with fun snacks, etc, but always added an avocado to the box. Eventually her son called her and asked why she was sending him an avocado every time. Her plan worked! He called! Thanks for the idea jgoodedesigns 😁 So basically add something goofy to your care packages.

8. Be prepared for surprises! They will definitely surprise you. 👏

9. Stay out of those Facebook groups for college parents the week you get home. They can sometimes make your anxiety way worse. Your kid is NOT like everyone else's and that's okay. 💕

10. After a week (or two!)... you'll feel MUCH better. I promise!!! ❤️
