Ever thought about giving spoken word poetry a try? Our 2022 Ocean Awareness Contest is the perfect opportunity!

By submitting a spoken word piece to the Poetry & Spoken Word category of the Contest, you’ll automatically be in the running for a $1,000/$1,500 Voice of the Sea Award 💰 (link in bio for more info)

If you like writing poetry but are feelin shy about reading it out loud on camera 🥺👉👈, or you’re like, “What even is spoken word?” no worries! Our Voice of the Sea Award partner Tayllor Johnson sisterhoodverb is here to help! 💪🏾

Tayllor is an amazing activist, educator, writer, and poet who started out just like a lot of y’all—honestly not even interested in poetry because she thought it had to be boring rhymes. You know, like roses are red, violets are blue…

But when she discovered spoken word and what poetry is really about, her world turned from black and white to technicolor 🌈

In the months following up to the June 13, 2022 Contest deadline, Tayllor will be sharing tips and tricks on our page for how to perform poetry, whether you’re a newbie or trying to finesse your work.

Stay tuned!
