A big congrats, again, to Dominique for winning one of our 2021 Educator Innovation Awards! 🥳 Help us celebrate her by dropping some claps in the comments 👏👏👏

Our Educator Innovation Awards recognize teachers or program coordinators who bring the Ocean Awareness Contest into their classrooms (IRL or virtually), empowering their students to speak up and stand up for our blue planet 🌍 📣

Our 2021 Ocean Awareness Contest theme, Water Rising, focused not just on the ocean, but on water in its many forms, asking young artists what stories need to be told to protect this precious element 💧

Dominique brought the Contest into her classroom—and even made it a mandatory assignment for her AP Environmental Science classes—because it was the perfect final project after her lessons on the human impacts of climate change on the environment, and because she loves empowering student creativity.

Dominique aims to encourage her students to express themselves and to share their feelings on taking care of our blue planet, to think about the daily impact they have on the environment, and to consider how they can make their human footprint smaller by taking some simple steps.

Some of her students wrote poetry, others created art, but they all shared a passionate message of wanting to do their part in conserving our natural resources and teaching others to do the same.
