First things you think of when someone says “natural history museum”? 🤔

Our guess: fossils, whale skeletons, dinosaurs, giant woolly mammoth sculptures…basically the movie “Night at the Museum” ✅🔦

Probably not on the list 🙅🏻‍♀️: some of your favorite marine and coastal animals, like sea turtles and polar bears.

That’s what makes 2019 Ocean Awareness Contest winner Lanna Song (13, California)’s piece “The Extinct Animal History Museum” so powerful. You don’t expect what you see. So it makes you think more about why you’re seeing what you’re seeing 👀

Why would you see a puffin or a pelican in an extinct animal history museum? What does that say about the kinds of threats these awesome creatures face today?

Our 2022 Ocean Awareness Contest: THE FUNNY THING ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE invites you to submit visual art, performing art, creative writing, film, multimedia, poetry, and/or spoken word that challenges our expectations for what climate change messaging should look like—just like this piece!

It’s open to students ages 11-18 from around the 🌏, it’s 🆓 to enter from now until the June 13, 2022 deadline, AND you have a chance at winning prizes of up to $1,500 each 💰
