“How can I translate—not in words but in belief—that a river is a body, as alive as you or I, that there can be no life without it?” ~ excerpt from Natalie Diaz ndinn’s “The First Water is the Body” in orion_magazine.

Here to remind y’all that the works of artists and cultural leaders are key to protecting water! Art has the power to raise awareness 🌊, spark 💥 conversations, and help shift peoples’ views 🤔

Check out “Women and Standing Rock” via the 🔗 in our bio. This collection of written and musical pieces by Native women, including Diaz’s piece, reminds us that, in the words of Layli Long Soldier, “water is not a “resource,” it’s not a “utility,” it’s not negotiable. Rather, “it is sacred.” [...] Without water, there is no life. Simple. True. Resonant, down to our very cells.”

This #WorldWaterWeek, dive right into global water issues with us 💧 as we explore the prompts of our 2021 Ocean Awareness Contest: WATER RISING through resources and inspo. This year’s Contest challenges you to explore and understand your connection to water, and to speak up 📣 for our blue 🌎 through the arts.

Prompt number 4 asks: Who has historically led movements to protect water? Who (and what–for example, policies) are our water protectors?
