“I grew up in Boston, surrounded by concrete and brick. Sometimes I didn’t feel so connected to my natural environment.” ~ Jason Talbot hotswat, Boston artist, Co-Founder of afhboston, and longtime visual art judge for our Ocean Awareness Contest.

We realize it can be hard to relate to marine conservation when you don’t experience or feel connected to the ocean. That’s why we shifted our focus to themes of water 💧 for our 2021 Ocean Awareness Contest WATER RISING. It’s also why we partnered with Jason to develop the 🥁🥁🥁

We All Rise Prize! 😃

$15,000 in prizes will be awarded to Black, Indigenous, or Latina/o/e-identifying U.S. students in the 2021 Contest whose entries show notable artistic achievement in their chosen category. We don’t restrict cash awards, so prize winners can decide how they want to use their money.

We’ll also be producing creative programming and educational offerings centering the voices of artists, performers, and activists of color as part of our commitment to supporting and uplifting #youngcreatives and #environmentaladvocates who have been historically underrepresented in the environmental space 💫 We can’t wait to share them with y’all! 🤗
