In "Tears of the Ocean" Kayla J. rustic.pine (Age 12, California) tackles the issue of ocean pollution.
.
"Right now, I see that the crisis of the ocean is going to become the crisis of our future if we don’t try to stop this uncontrollable pollution to the ocean."
.
Studies state that some 8 million metric tons a year of plastic ends up in our ocean every year. These plastics never disappear--they become smaller and smaller pieces called microplastics. A UN report states that there are 51 trillion microplastic particles in the sea. Fish, seabirds, and other marine animals ingest these plastics and often die because of it.
.
We can do better! Refuse plastic to begin with and try a zero waste lifestyle. You don't have to be perfect--millions of people imperfectly practicing zero waste has a big, positive impact!
