🦆"What the Duck?" by Jessica X. (Age 18, California) uses humor to bring attention to a serious problem: the effects of plastic pollution on birds.
.
An estimated 1 million seabirds die as a result of plastic every year, and it is said that nearly every shorebird has ingested plastic in their lifetime. 🥤
.
But there is a lot you can do to protect our birds from plastic! Your role in the solution is simple: use less plastic. While new technology is needed to clean up the tons of plastic already in our ocean, you can help by participating in a local cleanup, picking up litter when you see it on the ground, and refusing single-use plastic items whenever possible.
