For World Oceans Week, we are honoring the amazing marine life that call our ocean home. 🌊🏠🌊 All of youth artwork featured here was created for our annual Ocean Awareness Contest. If you're a student between the ages of 11-18, check out our 2020 Contest, which is accepting submissions through June 15th!
.
As fishing technology has become more and more advanced, more and more fish have been harvested from the sea. Destructive fishing practices like bottom trawling, long-lines, and drift netting are catastrophic for our oceans and marine life.
.
Sustainable fishing practices need to be used in order to allow fish populations to recover from previous exploitation; systems that reduce bycatch of nontarget fish and other animals, like sea turtles and marine mammals, need to be implemented, and practices that destroy habitat, such as bottom trawling, need to be banned. 🌊✊
