Happy #WorldTurtleDay! From paintings to poetry to animation, we love to see the different ways that our student artists use the sea turtle as symbol and subject in their submissions to the Ocean Awareness Contest. 🐢 Scroll for more #turtle art 👉
.
Sea turtles have been around for around 120 million years, yet nearly all species are now classified as threatened or endangered due to human impact: coastal development, commercial fisheries, poaching, pollution, and climate change.
.
You can help celebrate this incredible species by supporting organizations like newenglandaquarium that help rescue and rehab injured turtles; by becoming an informed and responsible seafood consumer, asking how seafood was caught and choosing options that don't harm or kill sea turtles; and by refusing single-use plastics and participating in coastal cleanups to reduce marine debris that may entangle or be accidentally eaten by turtles.
.
Featured student artists: Kate Lee (14, California); Anyiefon Akpakpan (15, Texas); Jessica Li (17, New Jersey); Emma Rasmussen (15, Georgia); Ellie Qing (13, Canada); Irene Oh (13, California)
